The Mindoro bleeding-heart, an endemic species of the Philippines, was photographed again after approximately 20 years without confirmed records. The last documented sighting by scientists dated back to 2005, fueling growing fears that the species had completely disappeared.

This bird had been classified as "critically endangered" since 1994. The scientific community even included it on the Lost Birds List, a compilation of species that are not observed for extended periods and may be extinct.

The rediscovery of this endemic dove represents a significant moment for the biodiversity of the Philippines and for bird conservation efforts worldwide. The fact that the species' heart still "beats" offers hope for its survival and for possible protection measures that can be implemented.
