A butane gas cylinder exploded in a building in Benicàssim, on El Palmeral street, number 67, leaving a 73-year-old woman injured by burns. The victim was admitted to La Fe hospital. The explosion occurred shortly after 9 in the morning.
The incident caused a great scare among the neighbors of this area of Benicàssim's beach. A resident of the building described the moment of the deflagration as a very loud bang, similar to the sound of a heavy piece of furniture falling from an upper floor.
Glass fragments were projected from the seventh floor and even reached residential areas near the building. The neighbors reported having heard one or two bangs followed immediately by the falling of glass.
