Eduardo Paes says he will re-educate Alerj deputies and promises to reform public security

Eduardo Paes, PSD candidate for governor of Rio de Janeiro, defended himself about the connections he had with former governor Sérgio Cabral, convicted of corruption. During an interview promoted by radio CBN and newspapers O Globo, Extra and Valor Econômico, Paes stated that his relations with Cabral are different from those former governor Cláudio Castro had with people linked to organized crime, and said he was not Cabral's "employee" as mayor of Rio.

The candidate criticized what he called the "transport mafia" in the state and promised to combat it. Paes also stated that he will "re-educate" deputies from Alerj, the State Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro, and promised to reform public security, unifying secretariats and retaking territories.

Paes declared that Douglas Ruas, PL candidate for governor, was an employee of Cláudio Castro. The PSD candidate also stated that he was investigated for years for his relationship with Sérgio Cabral, being a victim of what he described as persecution by a judge, who was eventually removed. According to Paes, it was proven that the judge used his position to persecute him.
