NASA published on Friday, the 11th, a satellite image showing the dense smoke trail from the towers that collapsed during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The smoke remained over the city of New York for several days, with records indicating the smell persisted in the area for weeks after the attack.

The city of New York revealed on this same date, marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks, a total of 170,000 pages of documents that had never been previously disclosed. These documents were published on a public access portal and include reports on air quality and correspondence between New York authorities.

The documents reveal that authorities at the time knew that air quality after the attacks posed health risks to the population. Despite this, both the public and the first responders who worked at the site were assured that the air was safe to breathe.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani was mentioned as responsible for making the documents available to the public, although the information about his specific statements remained incomplete in the available text.
