On Friday afternoon, a mass fire hit a scrubland area in the parish of Navais, in the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim. The alert was registered at 1:20 PM and prompted an immediate response from security authorities to contain the flames.
The Volunteer Firefighters of Póvoa de Varzim mobilized 17 operatives and five vehicles to combat the fire. The operation took place on the ground to control the spread of the flames.
The fire occurs during a period in which the district of Porto faces a high risk of fires, due to the rise in temperatures recorded in recent days. This context of intense heat will have contributed to the conditions conducive to the occurrence of fires.
The causes of the fire remain to be determined and the information may be updated based on new information from the competent authorities.
