Statement by André do Prado about senators causes discomfort within the PL

cbn11 September 2026 at 15:27

The Senate candidate for PL in São Paulo, André do Prado, has been provoking discomfort within his own party by making statements mocking voters' lack of knowledge about the names of the three São Paulo senators. In at least four events followed by CBN, including one last Thursday (10), he repeated the provocation by asking the audience who knows the names of the three senators representing São Paulo, asking them to speak up.

The situation generated an internal reaction at PL. Senator Marcos Pontes called the president of Alesp last week to complain about the statements and ask André do Prado to change his tone. Internally, the speech came to be seen as harmful to the party itself, although he uses the argument to defend the importance of voting for the Senate.

Marcos Pontes, a former minister under Jair Bolsonaro, was the most voted senator in São Paulo in 2022, with more than 10 million votes, and has a term until 2031. The other two São Paulo senators are Mara Gabrilli, from PSD, and Alexa, whose full name does not appear in the available portion of the article.
