PCP ACCUSES GOVERNMENT OF LEAVING INTERIOR PROBLEMS WITHOUT RESPONSE AFTER COUNCIL OF MINISTERS IN BRAGANÇA

Canal N – Notícias – Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro11 September 2026 at 15:11

The Leadership of the Regional Organization of Bragança (DORBA) of the PCP criticized the Government for the decisions made after the Council of Ministers meeting held in Bragança, considering that the decentralized session did not bring new responses to several of the main problems of the district.

Among the announced measures was the transformation of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança into the Polytechnic University of Bragança, an old demand that the PCP has supported since the 1990s. The party considers, however, that the change should not be limited to the alteration of the statute, defending an increase in public funding, autonomy, and democratic management of the institution.

For DORBA, the main conclusion of the meeting is the absence of new decisions in areas such as health, the railway, public transport, agriculture, housing, and public services. The party also points out the lack of measures regarding investment in the Aerodrome of Bragança, support for the elderly population, and attraction of new residents.

The regional organization defends that the interior needs more public investment, better transport, and completion of the railway planned in the National Railway Plan, in addition to strengthening public services and support measures for family farming. The PCP also claims better conditions for teachers and researchers, with greater job stability, considering that the development of the district requires concrete measures and not just political announcements.
