The memories of September 11, 2001 continue to be very difficult to face for the participants in the search and rescue operations of the victims of the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York. CNN Portugal spoke with the only Lusitanian-descendant firefighter who participated in these rescue efforts.
The special correspondent Ana Sofia Cardoso collected the testimony of this firefighter from New York. The article states that there were no injured people at that time, explaining that the victims "either could save themselves or they couldn't."
This firefighter was the only person of Portuguese origin called to participate in the rescue operations after the terrorist attacks that destroyed the Twin Towers.
The memories of that fateful day remain very hard for those who lived through that experience, and this testimony is an important record of Portuguese participation in the events of September 11th.
