The village of Fernão Joanes, known as the "village of shepherds", located in the municipality of Guarda, celebrated this weekend the tradition of transhumance with an event dedicated to this centuries-old practice.
The festival included several activities, namely walks, ethnographic recreations, gastronomy and cultural entertainment, offering visitors a complete experience of the region's pastoral life.
The event is integrated into the cycle of the Popular Culture Festivals of the municipality of Guarda, which promotes and values local traditions.
The celebration aims to recognize one of the most distinctive shepherd traditions of Serra da Estrela: the seasonal movement of flocks, a practice that shaped the landscape and culture of this region over the centuries.
