The Journalists' Union (SJ) defended that the Government take measures to guarantee the 'regular statutory functioning' of the news agency Lusíada. The appeal follows after the Regulatory Authority for the Media (ERC) confirmed the existence of irregularities in the agency's restructuring process.
The SJ made this appeal during the discussion of Lusíada's statutes in a specialized committee, requesting that the deliberation issued by the ERC not be ignored. The union emphasized that Lusíada's independence and the autonomy of its newsroom are issues that require serious defense.
Press freedom was also highlighted by the SJ as a principle that must be protected in this restructuring process. The union called for the removal of the situations that prompted the alert from the regulatory authority.
