Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), would have received €567.5 thousand — about R$3.4 million — in his personal account after a friendly match between the national teams of Cameroon and Russia held in October 2023. The information was published by the British newspaper "The Times" on Thursday.
Fecafoot did not specifically respond to questions about the destination of the funds until the publication of the report. Eto'o, on his part, commented on social media on Thursday night, but did not directly explain the deposits mentioned by the British newspaper.
The former striker related the accusations to the criticism he has made about the management of African football and stated that he is being attacked for defending the interests of the continent. According to him, all it took was for him to speak up in defense of Africa's interests for everyone to come out against him.
The case has now become the subject of a complaint to FIFA, which will investigate the origin and destination of the payments made to the president of the Cameroonian federation.
