25 years ago, on September 11, 2001, the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York left thousands dead and forever changed the history of the United States. During the chaos of that morning, João Aguiar Jr., one of the occupants of the towers, had the opportunity to flee the building, but chose to go back to try to save his colleagues.
João Aguiar Jr. was trapped on the upper floors and never managed to escape the Twin Towers. His decision not to abandon his colleagues ended up costing him his life, in an act of heroism that was remembered among survivors and family members of the victims.
A person who survived the attack states: "I owe him my life," recognizing that he owes his survival to the courage of João Aguiar Jr., who risked everything by going back to try to help others on that tragic day.
