The president of the Peniche City Council announced that he will request meetings with the Environment Minister and the Portuguese Environment Agency to express the municipality's opposition to a kaolin mine project.
The Peniche local authority is positioning itself against this mining operation, expressing concern about the environmental and territorial impacts that the project could bring to the region.
The mayor intends, through these meetings, to directly explain to the government the reasons for the opposition and demonstrate the unanimous position of the local community against the mine.
The kaolin mine in question has been generating controversy in the region, with local officials warning of potential negative consequences for the territory and the population of Peniche.
