Dozens of people receive Montenegro in protest in Setúbal at the start of the school year

Correio da Manhã11 September 2026 at 11:50

Dozens of people protested in Setúbal to receive Montenegro at the start of the school year. The demonstration took place as classes began and brought together several teachers, school staff, and members of the educational community.

The protesters chanted slogans against government policies for the education sector. The main demands focused on the valorization of public schools, which have faced growing difficulties in recent years.

In addition to education, the protest participants demanded salary increases for public sector workers. This demand arises in the context of broader discontent with working conditions and the purchasing power of civil servants.

The protest also included calls for the maintenance of Social Security in the public sector and the valorization of the National Health Service. These claims reflect a wider movement of contestation against privatization and austerity policies affecting public services in Portugal.
