The Castle of Alandroal was the venue, on September 10, for the presentation of the fourth edition of the Granfondo Serra D'Ossa, one of the reference cycling events in the Alentejo, scheduled for October 4. The event is expected to gather around 1700 participants, among Portuguese and foreign athletes.
Along the route, the event again connects the municipalities of Alandroal, Vila Viçosa, Borba, Estremoz and Redondo, taking participants to discover some of the main landscape and heritage values of this region. The Serra d'Ossa constitutes one of the main challenges of the route.
José Daniel Sadio, President of the Municipal Council of Estremoz, considered that the impact of the initiative on the territory has been "tremendous", evidencing the excellent union between the five municipalities. The mayor highlighted that none of these municipalities, in isolation, has the capacity to take advantage of the impact resulting from this sporting event of international scope.
Cyclists will be able to choose between three routes: the Granfondo, with 143.9 kilometres, the Mediofondo, with 108.3 kilometres, and the Minifondo, with 60.8 kilometres. The event is seen as an instrument for tourism promotion, economic dynamisation and valorisation of the Alentejo territory.
