ERC considers that TVI downplayed a sexual violence case: Cristina Ferreira's statements "devalue" the seriousness of the acts

The Regulatory Entity for Social Communication (ERC) concluded that TVI did not observe antenna ethics in addressing a sexual violence case on the program "Dois às 10". The regulator analyzed the interventions of Cristina Ferreira and the program commentators.

According to the ERC, the statements presented on the program downplayed the seriousness of the acts committed by the alleged aggressors. The regulator considers that the way the case was addressed contributed to transferring responsibility for the crime to the victim.

The ERC issued a critical opinion regarding the TVI's coverage of the case. The regulator's conclusion shows that the media approach of the program may not have been the most appropriate on a matter of this nature.
