Twenty artists gathered on Thursday in Shanksville, in the state of Pennsylvania, to create portraits of the 40 passengers and crew who died aboard United Airlines Flight 93 during the September 11 attacks. The action marked the commemoration of the 25 years since the terrorist attacks.
The artists worked during the event to produce the works that will be part of a memorial dedicated to the victims of Flight 93. This flight was one of four planes hijacked on September 11, 2001.
Flight 93 crashed in a field near Shanksville after the passengers tried to regain control of the plane from the hijackers. It is believed the target of the flight was the Capitol or the White House in Washington.
