Flamengo, managed by Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim, beat the Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle 2-0, in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals. The match took place on Thursday, in Quito, Ecuador.

The Brazilian team, reigning South American champions, settled the tie in their favour during the second half of the match. Forward Bruno Henrique opened the scoring at 61 minutes, with defender Léo Pereira doubling the lead at 75 minutes.

With this victory, Flamengo took a significant step towards the semi-finals of the continental competition. The second leg of the tie will be played later, with the Brazilian team in a favourable position to advance in the tournament.
