IEA revises downwards forecast for oil demand in 2026

The International Energy Agency (IEA) revised downwards its forecast for world oil demand in 2026. This revision represents a significant change from previous outlooks for the global energy sector.

The decline in oil demand is expected to concentrate mainly in middle distillates, which are fuels obtained through the petroleum distillation process. These products include various types of fuels used in both the industrial and transport sectors.

Petrochemical feedstocks are another segment where a drop in demand is expected. This sector is fundamental for the production of plastics and other materials derived from petroleum.

The Asia region is identified as the main center of this reduction in demand, which reflects changes in consumption patterns and the ongoing energy transition on that continent.

IPCA drops 0.32% in August, with decline in electricity bills and food prices

The IPCA, Brazil's official inflation index, fell 0.32% in August, recording the first monthly deflation since August of last year. The result was driven mainly by a 7.63% drop in residential electricity tariffs and a 0.34% decline in the Food and beverages group. Over 12 months, the index rose 4.22%, remaining below the upper limit of the central bank's continuous target, which is 3% with a margin of 1.5 percentage points. Year-to-date, the IPCA has accumulated a rise of 3.11%. The Housing, Transportation, Food and beverages, and Communication groups declined, while other groups rose.
