In the second quarter of 2026, ANACOM recorded a 195% increase in complaints related to digital services, totaling 121 complaints, representing the fourth consecutive quarter of significant growth in this sector. Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, are at the center of this issue, being responsible for more than 50% of complaints, with Facebook accounting for 30% of the total and Instagram for 25%.
The majority of complaints, 69%, come from large-scale platforms established in other European Union countries. During this period, 53 complaints were forwarded to digital services coordinators in other Member States, with emphasis on Ireland, which received 43 complaints.
The main reason for complaints is related to the suspension, restriction or removal of accounts and content, practices considered improper by users. This reason alone represents 68% of total complaints, with a significant increase compared to the previous year. In addition, reports of illegal content also increased, totaling 20 occurrences, and the complaint handling processes showed substantial growth, with 13 new complaints.
In light of this scenario, experts warn of the need for greater enforcement and compliance with the standards of the Digital Services Regulation, aiming at protection and transparency for users of digital platforms.
