The president of ANAREC, João Durão, accused the Portuguese Government of "lying to the Portuguese" and profiting from fuels, demanding greater enforcement to stop cross-border smuggling between Portugal and Spain. In Lanhelas, Caminha, Durão warned that national companies are losing competitiveness due to the high tax burden, noting that in one euro of diesel 60 cents are taxes, a situation that does not occur in Spain. He argued that Portugal should apply taxation close to that of Spain and considered that the ISP compensation mechanism through VAT is not transparent.
