The Ferreiros neighbourhood in Vila Real will host on September 26 the first edition of the Ferreiros Ramp, a competition that combines athletics and cycling in a timed uphill challenge. The initiative closes the European Week of Sport and is promoted by the Municipality of Vila Real, in partnership with the regional Athletics and Cycling associations.
The competition takes place on a course of approximately 200 metres with a 16% gradient, testing the endurance of the participants. There are 150 spots available for each discipline, with free participation. The programme also includes a Kids Ramp, aimed at children aged 10 to 15, with a course of approximately 100 metres and a 12% gradient.
The organisation has prepared entertainment along the route, with music, prizes and other activities, intending to bring sport to the urban space and revitalise the Ferreiros neighbourhood. The first edition features João Alves and João Matias as patrons, linked respectively to athletics and cycling.
