Monitoring of the Lis river confirmed ecological recovery after the sewage discharge that occurred due to a breakdown at the Monte Real pumping station. The study carried out identified 12 fish species in the watercourse, including the European eel and the ruivaco, which demonstrates the biodiversity present in the river. The results indicated that the impacts of the discharge were acute, localized and short-lived, not causing permanent damage to the ecosystem. The investigation made it possible to assess the effects of contamination and conclude that the river was able to recover its ecological conditions in a relatively short period after the incident.
