The famous "revenge dress" worn by Princess Diana is going to auction for the first time since 1997. The piece became famous for being worn by Diana the day after Prince Charles's public confession of adultery, at a time when the royal marriage was facing a serious crisis.
The dress was worn at a public event in 1994, when Charles publicly admitted to having been unfaithful to Diana during a televised interview. Diana is said to have consciously chosen to wear that tiny, daring dress as a response to her husband's confession.
The piece will be auctioned by Sotheby's, with the sale scheduled for September 2024. The dress had never been sold since 1997, when it was acquired by the current owner.
Part of the auction proceeds will go to NHS Lothian Charity, a charitable organization of the Scottish National Health Service.
