The trial of two police officers from the Rato station, in Lisbon, begins today. The officers are accused by the Public Prosecutor of torture crimes, the newspaper reports.
According to the indictment, between July 2024 and March 2025, the two police officers allegedly assaulted with punches, slaps, and rifle butt strikes to the head people they had detained. The assaults allegedly occurred inside the police station.
The Public Prosecutor also states that the two officers allegedly filmed and photographed some of these situations, as well as the respective victims. No further details are revealed about the number of victims or the exact circumstances of the facts.
The trial thus begins this Tuesday, with the two police officers being tried for torture crimes allegedly committed in the exercise of their duties.
