251 fires in eight months

The Madeira region recorded 215 fires in eight months, with the municipality of Câmara de Lobos leading the number of incidents, totaling 67 cases. This was the headline news in today's printed edition of the DIÁRIO newspaper.

The wildfires accounted for 86% of the total incidents and involved more than 2,500 personnel in fighting the flames during this period.

For the next reforestation season, the IFCN already has 172,000 plants ready in its nurseries, preparing to recover the burned areas.

The edition also highlights that the available financial resources are not sufficient to solve all the challenges related to fires in the region.
