Wendy the coyote, who became famous on social media for carrying a large deformity on the left side of her face, was put down after veterinarians discovered that the wound had been caused by pellet gun shots. The decision was announced on Tuesday, October 8, by Wildlife Care of Southern California, the organization responsible for capturing the animal.
The animal roamed the San Fernando Valley, in the Los Angeles area, and was frequently seen by Studio City residents while foraging for food. The facial deformity caught the attention of the community and caused the story to gain traction on social media, generating a movement to find the coyote and offer treatment.
Wildlife Care of Southern California managed to capture the animal after weeks of searching. The organization followed the case and announced the decision to put down the coyote after the veterinary diagnosis.
