China punishes internet users for criticism and "rumors" about floods in Tibet

Chinese police announced administrative sanctions against eight netizens for posts related to the floods that hit Nepal and the Tibetan county of Gyirong in August. The posts included messages about the causes of the flooding and criticism of the rescue operations carried out in the region.

Chinese authorities classified some of the posts as "rumors" and deemed the criticism of the rescue operations inappropriate. The netizens were punished with administrative sanctions by the Chinese state.

The incident occurred after the August floods that affected both Nepal and the Gyirong county region in Tibet. The situation sparked online debate about flood management and the authorities' response to natural disasters in the region.
