The Municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha will celebrate European Mobility Week from September 16 to 22, 2026, under the theme "Mobility for All – Justice Between Generations". Throughout the week, trips on the Albus transport service will be free for users. This initiative, promoted in Portugal by the Portuguese Environment Agency, aims to raise awareness for the adoption of behaviors favorable to active and sustainable mobility.
The Solidarity Bike Ride – 500 km for the Volunteer Firefighters of Albergaria-a-Velha marks the beginning of the program. At the Municipal Market – A Praça, stationary bicycles are available for children, youth, and adults to pedal for the benefit of the firefighters, with the Municipality donating two euros for each kilometer traveled, with the goal of raising one thousand euros. The community can participate until September 22, and on that day, the bicycles will be moved to the area of the Municipal Buildings.
On September 18, students from the 2nd and 3rd cycles of the School Grouping will be able to participate in PEDIBUS or BIKEBUS, walking or cycling school trains organized to the school, guided by adults. On Saturday, the Plogging Albergaria takes place, with teams collecting litter in the six parishes of the Municipality. On Sunday, there is a cyclo-tourism ride departing from the Municipal Market, in partnership with the FJP Cycling School, open to all ages.
The Week ends on European Car-Free Day, September 22, with Ferreira Tavares Square and Alameda 5 de Outubro closed to traffic between 10:00 AM and 6:30 PM. Recreational spaces will occupy the public roadway under the motto "The street belongs to everyone!", with the involvement of the school community. All activities are free, but require prior registration. The organization has the support of the Mobility and Transport Fund.
