Julio Casares expelled from São Paulo's membership rolls

Julio Casares, former president of São Paulo, was expelled from the club's membership rolls on Thursday. The measure was approved by the Deliberative Council with 223 votes to five. The decision was made after Casares faced a process before São Paulo's Ethics Committee, which recommended expulsion for reckless or irregular management.

The rapporteur of the process before the Ethics Committee found approximately R$ 7 million in withdrawals from the club's accounts without proof of origin, purpose, and destination. The spending on the corporate card was also used as an argument, including purchases at luxury establishments, restaurants, beauty salons, medical expenses, personal medications, and purchases at pet shops.

Casares is also being investigated by the Civil Police and the Public Ministry for the same reasons. In November of last year, when he was already under police investigation, he returned more than R$ 500 thousand to the club. The Ethics Committee also recommended that he indemnify São Paulo.
