Mathematics teacher Megan Eckert, 40, from New Mexico, simultaneously broke the women's six-day world record and the absolute United States record by covering 1,024 kilometers in six days. The American athlete completed the feat on Wednesday morning in Balatonfüred, Hungary.
Eckert participated in the Six-Day World Championship organized by the Global Organization of Multi-Day Ultramarathoners, known by the acronym GOMU, with the specific goal of breaking both records. Her participation in the event was successful, allowing her to set both world marks.
In addition to breaking the world records, Megan Eckert finished the competition as the overall winner of the race. The American teacher surpassed all other participants, including Norwegian Simen Holvik, who came in second place by covering 940 kilometers.
