Matías Viña faces an impasse in his career. Loaned by Flamengo to River Plate at the beginning of the year, the Uruguayan left-back hasn't taken the field since June 15, when he played in the match between Uruguay and Saudi Arabia in the first round of the World Cup. Even though he was called up for the Uruguayan national team, he doesn't play for either of the clubs he is linked to and can't get clearance to seek a new destination.
The player was signed by Flamengo in 2024, but suffered a serious injury and never managed to justify the investment. After being left out of the plans of then-coach Filipe Luís, he was loaned to River Plate. The agreement between the clubs is valid until the end of this season and includes a purchase obligation worth five million dollars, equivalent to R$ 27 million, conditioned on Viña playing in at least 50% of River's games in 2026.
However, the Uruguayan also failed to establish himself at the Buenos Aires club. After accumulating only 14 games without participating in goals, he was sidelined by River Plate. Without playing for either club and with no transfer prospects, Viña is going through a delicate moment in his career, unable to get his football career back on track.
