Famalicão and neighboring municipalities begin removal of water hyacinth from the Ave River

The Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão has begun the removal of water hyacinth from the Ave River, in a coordinated action with the municipalities of Trofa, Santo Tirso, and Vila do Conde. The intervention started in the Famalicão parishes of Ribeirão and Fradelos and is part of an intermunicipal strategy developed in partnership with the Portuguese Environment Agency. This invasive aquatic plant has caused significant environmental problems in the river, affecting water quality and local ecosystems. Coordination between the various municipalities along the Ave River is considered essential to ensure the effectiveness of the removal, preventing the plant from spreading again between municipalities.
