September 25 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, will be present at the Pentagon for the commemoration ceremonies, but will not travel to New York to participate in the tribute at Ground Zero, the site where the twin towers collapsed.
The ceremony in New York will feature the presence of several former American presidents, namely George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as current President Joe Biden. All gathered together to honor the memory of the nearly three thousand victims of the terrorist attacks that shook the country a quarter of a century ago.
Trump's absence from the Ground Zero ceremony means there will be no formal reunion between the current president and his Democratic predecessors. This is the first time Trump marks the date as sitting president, in a moment laden with symbolism for the American nation.
