Washing rice before cooking it is a common practice in many homes and is usually done out of habit. However, this step can affect both the texture of the rice and some of its nutritional components.

A study published in 2025 in the scientific journal 'Food Chemistry' analyzed different varieties of rice and found that washing reduced the concentration of cadmium and lead in the studied samples by up to 50%.

The study included white, brown and basmati rice, as well as essential minerals such as iron. The research suggests that the practice of washing rice may have significant health benefits by eliminating heavy metal contaminants.

Low bone volume hinders implants, but there are options available

A 2019 IBGE survey reveals that 34 million Brazilian adults have lost 13 or more teeth, and 14.1 million have no teeth at all. Among elderly people aged 60 or over, nearly one third has lost all teeth. The problem is that without the tooth, the alveolar bone that supported it loses up to 50% of its width in the first year after extraction, making it difficult to place dental implants. However, there are techniques and treatment options available for patients with low bone volume, according to dental implant specialists.
