Employees of Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal went on an indefinite strike this Thursday. The stoppage occurs after the categories did not accept the collective bargaining agreements proposed by the financial institutions.
In the case of Caixa, the strike is nationwide. Workers from the base of the São Paulo, Osasco and Region Bank Employees Union approved the stoppage on August 4, after rejecting the renewal of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. According to the National Federation of Bank Employees, the proposal received more than 90% rejection in union bases. Negotiations with Caixa resumed on Wednesday.
At Banco do Brasil, the strike is partial. The new Collective Bargaining Agreement was not approved in unions in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Pernambuco, and Florianópolis. The category maintains mobilization until new assemblies make a decision on the direction of the movement.
Workers demand better salary and working conditions, while banks seek to maintain the terms of previous agreements. The strike is expected to affect services at branches throughout the country during the strike period.
