President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned new legislation that establishes the exemption of the so-called "little blouses tax" for international purchases of up to US$ 50. The measure aims to facilitate foreign trade for Brazilian consumers in lower-value purchases.
The new legislation also provides for a reduction in the rate applied to goods of up to R$ 3,000 per shipment, going from 60% to 30%. This change represents a significant drop in the tax burden for those who import products within this value limit.
The "little blouses tax" is a popular reference to the tax that applies to low-value international purchases, which became widely known for mainly affecting purchases of clothing and accessories from abroad through e-commerce platforms.
