A study on social protection sector payments in Portugal reveals that, although technology allows money transfers in seconds, the social support payment process takes weeks to be completed. The study, titled "Welfare Sector Payments – Portugal", identifies significant flaws in how these payments are processed.
According to the study, pensions, social benefits and public health payments represent more than 86 billion euros in annual direct transfers to citizens and healthcare providers. This substantial value highlights the importance of the social payments system for the Portuguese economy.
The research points to a discrepancy between the available technological speed and the slowness of the administrative processes actually implemented. This situation directly affects beneficiaries who depend on these social supports to meet their needs.
