A faction of the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) viewed with relief the decision by Justice Alexandre de Moraes to postpone the statement he was set to make on Thursday. The assessment among these justices is that making a statement at this moment could escalate the internal crisis at the Court.
The expectation was that Moraes would make a public defense regarding suspicions about his involvement with banker Daniel Vorcaro, from Banco Master, suspected of leading a financial fraud scheme. The justice's statement, which had been scheduled for 11 a.m., was canceled less than an hour after it was announced and, according to the court, will be rescheduled for an "opportune date."
The understanding at the Court is also that a statement by Moraes could create friction given the Federal Police operation investigating suspected embezzlement of parliamentary amendment funds for companies linked to the producer of the film Dark Horse, which tells the political story of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
