The FGTS Curatorial Council approved on Thursday (the 10th) the government's proposal to expand the subsidized funds for the Minha Casa Minha Vida program by an additional R$ 500 million. With this decision, the total amount allocated to the program this year rises to R$ 13 billion, with R$ 8 billion already effectively invested.
The funds are used to offer discounts on housing contracts for families enrolled in Brackets 1 and 2 of the program, which have income of up to R$ 5,000. The subsidy amount per family can reach up to R$ 55,000.
During the meeting, the Council also approved the redemption of R$ 5.8 billion from the infrastructure fund (FI-FGTS), referring to the return of old projects. Labor Minister Luiz Marinho complained that these funds are being returned to the fund instead of being invested in new projects, and asked the private sector for suggestions on how to allocate these resources.
The FI-FGTS was created from PAC 1, in the president's second term, and aims to invest in infrastructure projects in the country.
