Agricultural schools in the region are understaffed

A Voz de Trás-os-Montes10 September 2026 at 18:42

Agricultural schools in the region are facing a severe staff shortage. One of the schools affected by the problem has 175 enrolled students and an area of 57 hectares, operating with multiple facilities beyond regular classes.

The institution maintains a farm with sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, and horses, as well as a residence for students, its own cafeteria, cleaning and hygiene services, and an olive oil press.

According to Marcelino Martins, the director of the institution interviewed by VTM, the staff shortage should not compromise the start of classes, but may force the school to hire external services and suspend some activities.

The main concern falls on the surveillance of the student residence, which may require an external company to ensure the service, generating additional costs for the institution.

Blood donation awareness campaigns have been gaining strength throughout Brazil, with emphasis on the work of the Hemominas Foundation in Minas Gerais, which reinforces the need for regular donations to maintain blood center stocks at safe levels. According to the Ministry of Health, a single donation can benefit several people, as blood is separated into different components used according to each patient's needs. Initiatives by companies, institutions and social organizations have been fundamental to expanding the number of donors and encouraging voluntary and recurring donation, considered essential for supplying blood banks and caring for patients in surgeries, transplants and emergencies.
