The savings account registered a net withdrawal of R$ 10.6 billion in August of this year, according to data published by the Central Bank. It is the third consecutive month in which withdrawals from the application exceed deposits this year, with only May showing a positive balance, of R$ 2.6 billion. In July, the net withdrawal was R$ 7.2 billion and, in August of last year, R$ 7.6 billion.
The negative result in August was recorded due to the difference between deposits of R$ 357.7 billion and withdrawals of R$ 368.2 billion. After returns of R$ 6.5 billion in the month, the total balance in savings stood at R$ 1.015 trillion, while at the end of last year it was R$ 1.022 trillion.
The savings account has been declining in recent years due to a structural movement. With greater access to more profitable investments, the population has been foregoing the savings account in their applications.
