A car built to last: mechanic reveals popular model in Portugal costing 2,000€ that 'never' needs a garage

A Spanish mechanic named Javier Cortez shared on social media a recommendation for a used car that, according to his experience, combines simple mechanics with few visits to the workshop beyond routine maintenance. The highlighted model was the Ford Focus with a 1.6 petrol engine of 100 horsepower, which Cortez knows well as it is the vehicle he uses daily.

Cortez's Focus had accumulated 230,000 kilometres without presenting any relevant breakdowns, continuing to be used regularly despite its age and high mileage. The mechanic stated that the engine only entered the workshop for maintenance, an assessment based on the use of his own vehicle.

Cortez attributed this positive experience to the naturally aspirated engine, without turbo, considering that the lower mechanical complexity makes this version interesting among older used cars. The mechanic particularly valued the durability and ease of use, keeping up with maintenance as a condition for proper functioning.

In his statements, Cortez stated that it was possible to find examples starting from 2,000 euros in the used car market in Spain. However, the amount corresponds only to the reference price presented by the mechanic at that time and does not represent a fixed price for all examples, nor does it confirm availability at the same value in Portugal. The Ford Focus has a significant presence in Portugal, with approximately 105,000 units sold since 1998, although this number includes different generations and engine options.
