German police detained this Tuesday a 48-year-old suspect as part of a series of attacks on energy distribution systems across the country. The arrest took place near a power plant in Weisweiler, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in western Germany, after a massive search that lasted several days.
The man, whose name and nationality were not disclosed in accordance with German privacy laws, was widely identified by local media as Daniel V. According to Cologne police, the suspect was in possession of explosives at the time of his arrest and did not offer resistance.
The first acts of sabotage occurred early last week at a substation near the Jänschwalde coal-fired power plant, in Brandenburg, in northeastern Germany.
