The survey also showed that prostate cancer is the urological disease that causes the most fear among them, cited by 58% of respondents.
These data gain relevance given the projection by The Lancet Commission, which estimates a global doubling of prostate cancer cases to 2.9 million, with an 85% increase in deaths, reaching nearly 700,000 by 2040.
The guidelines from the European Association of Urology point out that male urinary symptoms have a multifactorial origin and may be related to different health conditions. Therefore, medical investigation should also consider associated diseases, medications in use, lifestyle habits, and other aspects of the patient's health.
A scientific review published in Panminerva Medica highlights that for a long time, men's health did not receive due attention. The topic requires a joint approach to early identify both prostate cancer and other conditions that may be causing the symptoms.
