The Minister of Environment and Energy warned today, in Lisbon, that Portugal needs to achieve greater energy and water independence. During her statements, the government official emphasized that it is impossible to know when it will be necessary to "deal with other forces from other countries" that may cause problems for the country.
The minister used the expression "one day we wake up and there are no fuels" to exemplify Portugal's vulnerability regarding external dependence on energy resources. This warning comes in a context of growing concerns about supply security in Europe.
The government official's message aims to reinforce the need for Portugal to invest in its own energy sources and in water storage capacity, in order to reduce exposure to external factors that may threaten the supply of these essential goods for the population and the national economy.
