Understand how decision favoring Textor in England affects Botafogo SAF shares

oglobo10 September 2026 at 17:49

John Textor achieved a new victory in England's courts in the dispute involving Botafogo SAF shares. The London court ruling determines that the shares held by Eagle Football Holdings Bidco must be preserved, preventing them from being sold, transferred, or having their value reduced while the main legal dispute proceeds in Brazil. The measure does not represent a final decision on who will have control of the SAF.

The ruling specifically addresses 90% of the class B ordinary shares of Botafogo's SAF, whose certificates are held by Eagle Bidco. Until the final decision of the Brazilian proceedings, or until the English courts themselves determine otherwise, Eagle and its administrators are prohibited from selling, transferring, trading, or taking any action that reduces the value of these shares.

The ruling goes beyond preventing a possible sale, as Eagle is also barred from exercising rights attached to the shares while the dispute remains ongoing. The blog obtained access to the court ruling, which represents another chapter in the legal battle between those involved in the corporate control of Botafogo.
