Minha Casa, Minha Vida: FGTS Board Approves Government Request to Increase Subsidies

oglobo10 September 2026 at 17:14

The FGTS Board of Trustees approved on Thursday a government proposal that increases by an additional R$ 500 million the subsidized funds for the Minha Casa Minha Vida program. This year, R$ 12.5 billion had already been released for this purpose, of which R$ 8 billion has been applied. With the new decision, the total amount reaches R$ 13 billion, establishing a record on the eve of the elections.

The funds are used to offer discounts on housing contracts for families enrolled in Brackets 1 and 2 of the program, which serves people with income up to R$ 5,000. The subsidy amount per family can reach up to R$ 55,000.

To expand the availability of FGTS funds, the board members also approved the redemption of R$ 5.8 billion from the infrastructure fund (FI-FGTS), related to the return of old projects. During the meeting, the Labor Minister, Luiz Marinho, complained that, instead of investing in new projects, the FI-FGTS is returning funds, and asked for suggestions from the private sector to resolve the issue.

The FI-FGTS was created from PAC 1, during President Lula's second term. The government's proposal aims to expand subsidies for the housing program, which serves low-income families.
