Nubank accelerates US launch through partnership with Lead Bank

oglobo10 September 2026 at 16:54

Nubank, a Brazilian fintech, decided to accelerate its entry into the United States market, starting its operations immediately through a partnership with Lead Bank, while awaiting final approval of its own American banking license. The decision represents a significant change from the company's previous timeline.

The announcement was made during an event held in Miami, on Thursday. The company revealed that it will offer American customers a deposit account with 3.5% annual yield, domestic and international transfers without fees, as well as a credit card with no annual fee that grants 1.5% cashback on all purchases made.

Nubank is awaiting final approval of its banking license application in the United States, which is being reviewed by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the American banking regulatory body. The OCC granted conditional approval in January, when the company had stated it expected to start its operations in the country in 2027.

The company decided to move up its entry into the American market because the regulatory approval process can be lengthy, thus choosing to partner with Lead Bank to begin operating while its own license is still under review.
