The president of the Lisbon Property Owners Association, Luís Menezes Leitão, analyzed the impact of the second interest rate increase decided by the European Central Bank on the Portuguese real estate sector.
According to the official, the interest rate increase affects not only mortgages but also landlords. Menezes Leitão argued that if interest rates shoot up, naturally rents have to rise, reflecting the increased financing costs for property owners.
The analysis comes in a context of monetary policy decision by the European Central Bank, which carried out its second interest rate increase, measures aimed at combating inflation in the eurozone.
